The Greatest Problem Solver
“But if it be questions of words and names, and of your law, look ye to it; for I will be no judge of such matters.” (Acts 18:15).
Gallio was deputy of Achaia. These troublemaking Jews came to him to get Paul stopped from preaching the gospel. They came to an ungodly man to try and get what they wanted; he responded to them, (in my words), "You should handle your own problems." It’s much the same today; it seems we in the church are asking an ungodly people to help uphold what is right. If we are going to win the fight against evil in this world we have to come together and realize that we have to get our own house in order. It’s no secret that the world wants to stop the preaching of the gospel, but that shouldn’t be the case in the church. We have to be committed to doing what the Lord has trusted us with, and that is to go into all the world and preach the good news. It seems that we sit around waiting for the world to make decisions about what we can or cannot do.
Our problem in this world is a spiritual problem, and it starts in the church. We, the people of God, have to start walking in the Spirit and not the flesh. We shouldn’t be allowing ungodly people to decide how we share the gospel. The very ones that we are looking to for direction are the very ones who need Jesus. The Jews ran to Gallio for help. It should have been the other way around; Gallio needed to run to them for help. These folks who sit in these positions of decisions need to be able to count on us for help - they need Jesus. Yes, we have problems sometimes in our churches; we don’t all agree all the time; but our problem solver is our Father in heaven, not the Supreme Court, or the President, or Congress, or city government; His Name is Jehovah God, the greatest problem solver of all time!
