Psalm 95:6, “O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the Lord our maker.” The Hebrew word for worship means, “to cause oneself to lie prostrate.” In ancient times folks would bow before a person of higher status or a king to express complete submission to his rule. True Christian worship must express more than just love for God, it must also express submission to His Will. We were taught by Jesus Himself this wonderful principle, “not my will, but Thy will be done.” A great part of worship today is allowing God to do in our lives what He wants done. Listening to the Word of God for our lives today and then doing our very best to fulfill that Word.
People are always saying I don’t know the will of God for my life; well you can’t know it unless you seek it; and we find it in the Word of God. Maybe as we focus on worship this month, we also could understand that part of that is learning to love the Word. You see, the Word won’t just show what the Lord has for us, but the Word will also show us the Father. And that is greatly needed in my life today; to know everything I can about the Father. And this great component of worship, submission, the Word will show me how I can submit unto the will of God for my life. In the New Testament John said that obeying the Word was evidence of my love for God, so this is a great part of worship - to know and do the Word of God. So my desire is to bow down in His presence and get up and do His will for my life today!
